    What is it? Towering over the foothills near Kaohsiung, Fo Guang Shan Monastery is the largest Buddhist complex in Taiwan. Enter a world of peace. The Monastery was established in 1967. Situated on the left bank of the Gaoping River northeast of Dashu Township in Kaohsiung City. The Monastery is an element in South Taiwan’s Buddhist center. Created by Master Hsing Yun. A massive 120 meter tall golden statue of Buddha Amitabha is located in the Fo Guang Shan Monastery. 480 standing Buddhas encircle the main square. The Daxiongbao, Dabei, Dazhi, and Dashu shrines are the four temples that make up the main constructions. 10.000 figurines of Guanyin are around the temple. In the 14,800 holes in the walls of the four shrines. Buddha sculptures and lanterns of light are situated. There are almost a thousand Buddha statues, both big and small, at the location. The Buddhist complex houses museums, a university, and even vegetarian restaurants.
